Eastern Hercules Beetle

Eastern Hercules Beetle

While first arriving at church this morning I spotted this beauty, a male Eastern Hercules Beetle, laying dead on the sidewalk. Not a pest, I would speculate that he wandered in from the woods behind our church where they spend the bulk of their lives. Hercules Beetles often get the attention of folks who could care less about bugs due to their hefty size and pale coloring. Perfectly harmless to humans, they are nevertheless hard to miss. I’d wager a guess that he’s had a busy and fun summer hooking up with other equally lusty female Hercules Beetles in the area and died happy a few days ago. Lord only knows how successful he was!
