Crazy Ladybug Day

Drawing of an Asian ladybug

Crazy ladybug day isn’t an officially recognized holiday of course, but it’s significant nonetheless. It’s that time of year again when the ladybugs get a little nutty and begin their annual ritual of trying to break into our homes to crash for the winter. Can’t say I blame them either. I know I’d much rather be indoors during winter too.

Unlike most people, the ladybugs really don’t bother me. I appreciate them being around certainly, but they can be a bit pesky if you happen to be working outside when they start flying about. As much as I like bugs, I still don’t care for them crawling on me which the Asian ladybugs are bad about doing on these warm, sunny autumn days like today.

Since the ladybugs were feeling so friendly and outgoing today I decided to snatch one to draw. Didn’t put up much of a fuss. Drawing ladybugs is about the easiest thing to do, even if you can’t draw a lick. Body-wise, they are as simple as they come. Little more than an orange dot with legs really. Get that down (and who can’t?) and you’ll end up with a ladybug every time. A sweet little assignment for an artist who’s crunched on time today.
