I’m grateful to Spotify for all the mindless hours of blissful listening pleasure it has provided for me. As a bonus Spotify has even enlightened me, a musical ignoramus, with a much-needed cultural education on who sings what. One of the more notable examples of my musical epiphanies that I don’t mind sharing is that for thirty some odd years I’ve been bedeviled with a country ditty that I simply could not place for the life of me nor pin the singer who sang it. Whatever it was that tune has been rolling around in my head like a poor lost soldier who couldn’t find his way home. That mystery song has been retired from the air play long ago which is unfortunate as I remember it being a terrific and peppy little ditty but with no way to identify it I was only stuck with my memory of it. Thanks to Spotify I “finally” discovered at long last what that mystery song was; it was Terri Gibbs lone major hit “Somebody’s Knockin'”. You may even be familiar with it and enjoyed that song back in the day if you were listening to the radio back in the eighties. It got a lot of air play in the eighties and put Terri Gibbs in the limelight and it’s unfortunate she never followed that hit up with any more hits as she switched to singing gospel soon afterwards. Give it a listen sometime if you have forgotten all about it as it’s a gem. No doubt it’ll surely bring back memories or, at the least, give you a new singing sensation to enjoy from your usual listening pleasure.
