Against my better judgement I accepted the offer to become a moderator for a rapidly growing page on Facebook. That’s what eager participation will do for you. It gets you noticed and occasionally in hot water. The whole shebang started innocently enough. I was spending my morning scrolling through the usual Facebook crap and midway through the slog I took a break and mindlessly zipped over to one of my favorite Facebook hangouts. And guess what was waiting for me there? Right at the top of the page was a fat and conspicuous invitation emblazoned in pretty red inviting me to become a hunky moderator for the group if I wished to take on the headaches and hassles of the job. This was quite a surprise when I saw it as I had no warning or premonitions from anyone that I was even being considered for the position. It simply came right out of the Facebook blue.
At first I demurred. Lord knows I’m already busy enough as it is and sure don’t need even more responsibilities or distractions in my already overloaded life. But neither did I decline it. So I opted to ignore it while I got busy perusing and commenting on the latest postings. But there was one dink who was really bugging me and everyone else. I’m sure you know the routine. You get the annoying spammer/scammer masquarading around under a fake profile who posts these pre-fabricated spam advertorials complete with a handy link for you to click on that will surely take you to some forbidden den of iniquity or cause your computer to go into an uncontrolled meltdown.
Spammers just really annoy the beejeebers out of me. His shenanigans went on for some days until I finally realized no one else running this group seemed to be interested in ridding us of this pest. And that if anything was going to be done about this guy it was up to me. And unlike all the other couple hundred thousand members of the group I was actually in the position to do something! And that little epiphany was the inspiration for my deciding to don the Moderator mantle. And I’m pleased to say that my very first order of business was having the grand pleasure of kicking that fraudster out into the Facebook netherlands. Honest to goodness, it was one of the happiest moments on Facebook I ever had.
Any day now I expect to get an email from Mr. Zuckerburg who surely must have noticed my exemplary performance as a moderator. So impressed with my skills that he will no doubt beg and plead for me to become his next Chief Moderator of Facebook because God knows Facebook really needs one and I’m the man for the job.
